Pension bonus
The pension bonus is a net amount you receive if you continue to work after the earliest date on which you could have retired. The bonus is paid on top of your pension.
Flexi jobs
If you have a flexi job, as of 1 January 2025 you must observe an additional limit of 7 876 euros a year if you:
- have retired early and have not yet reached the statutory retirement age;
and - have worked fewer than 45 years when your first Belgian retirement pension starts.
This means that if you have a flexi job, you have to observe two limits:
- the general limit that applies to your situation for your total professional income (flexi job included);
and - the additional limit for the income from your flexi job.
This additional limit for flexi jobs does not apply if:
- you have already reached the statutory retirement age and are receiving your own retirement pension;
- you have a career of 45 years at the start of your first Belgian retirement pension;
- your spouse receives a household rate pension;
- you only receive one or several survivor's pensions and no retirement pension;
- you only receive a transitional allowance;
- you were solely retired ex officio (e.g. soldiers who were retired at the age limit or civil servants who were retired due to 365 sick days after the age of 63, …);
- you solely receive a retirement pension in a special scheme (aircrew, seafarer, miner) and your career meets specific conditions.
Guaranteed minimum pension
Guaranteed minimum pension - new conditions for pensions that start on or after 01.01.2025
When calculating your pension, we can, under certain conditions, raise your pension amount to a guaranteed minimum amount.
If you retire on 1 January 2025 or later, you must prove a minimum number of effectively worked days.

Part-time work before 2002 - new conditions for the guaranteed minimum pension
If you worked part-time as an employee before 2002, this employment can, under certain conditions, (partially) be equated with full-time employment for the calculation of the guaranteed minimum pension.

Guaranteed minimum pension increased to 1 500 euros net
The coalition agreement provided for a gradual increase of the guaranteed minimum pension, until it reached 1 500 euros net a month for a full career by 2024. Due to several indexations, this net amount has already been exceeded.
On 1 January 2024, the guaranteed minimum pension was further raised by 2,08 %.
Will my guaranteed minimum pension also be raised if I had an incomplete career? Yes, in this case, you are also entitled to a raise:
- as an employee/self-employed worker in proportion to the number of years in your career;
- as a civil servant after deduction of any other sources of income.

Increase extra guaranteed minimum allowance for civil servants
If, when we calculate your retirement pension due to the age limit, seniority, or physical incapacity, the amount falls below the guaranteed minimum for a retirement pension, you can receive an extra allowance so as to attain this guaranteed minimum amount.
On 1 January 2024, this extra allowance was further raised by 1,17 %.
When we calculate your survivor's pension and the amount falls below the guaranteed minimum for a survivor's pension, you can get an extra allowance in order to reach the guaranteed minimum amount.
On 1 January 2024, this extra allowance was further raised by 4,40 %.

Transitional allowance: entitlement to a guaranteed minimum pension (GMP) + prolonged duration
The transitional allowance is a temporary benefit for a surviving spouse who does not meet the age condition for the survivor's pension.
The government:
- has prolonged the duration of the transitional allowance as of 1 October 2021;
- guarantees the minimum pension in the case of a transitional allowance in the scheme for employees as of 1 July 2022. This is also the case for the civil service scheme.

Childminders - new conditions for the guaranteed minimum pension
On 1 January 2023, the legislation on the entitlement to a guaranteed minimum pension changed for persons, or for the surviving spouse of persons, who were or are childminders:
- between 1 January 2003 and 31 December 2032
and - who retired or will retire between 1 January 2023 and 2 January 2033.

Pension due to physical incapacity (civil servants only)
From 1 January 2025:
- you can no longer be definitively retired due to physical incapacity. To enable you to re-integrate as a civil servant and to improve your minimum protection, this retirement:
- will be replaced by a temporary pension due to physical incapacity from 1 January 2025 until 31 December 2027.
- will be replaced by a temporary inability to work benefit for civil servants from 1 January 2028 onwards.
- the limit for a professional income in combination with an extra guaranteed minimum allowance is raised.
Are you already receiving a pension due to definitive physical incapacity? Nothing changes, you retain your pension.
Biennial adaptation civil service pensions
The civil service retirement and survivor's pensions keep pace with the evolution of the wages of the active civil servants. We call this adaptation of the pension amount the biennial adaptation of the civil service pensions to the wages of the active civil servants.
From 1 January 2025 onwards, the civil service pensions will only be allowed to increase annually, parallel to the civil service wages, by 0,3 % of the total pension expense.

Artists
On 4 April 2024, the Chamber voted for a pension reform that seeks to take the unique career elements of artists into account.
When am I considered to be an artist?
To have the artist statute, you should be the holder of an art work certificate. Find out more about the artist statute at the website www.workinginthearts.beOpens in a new window.
Relaxing of the effectively worked days condition for the guaranteed minimum pension
From 1 January 2025, you need to have effectively worked for at least 5 000 days to be entitled to the guaranteed minimum pension.
As an artist, it is difficult to meet this condition due to the intermittent character of your work (periods of intense work, quiet periods and periods of invisible work).
To avoid you not having access to the minimum pension because of this, your number of effectively worked days will be multiplied by an increase coefficient of 1,42.
Find out more about the calculation of the effectively worked days on the NEO websiteOpens in a new window.
Assimilation of periods of unemployment without benefits
Days of unemployment for which you did not receive benefits, will be considered as worked days for:
- the entitlement to a pension and the calculation of the retirement age;
- the minimum pension;
- the minimum entitlement per career year.
As soon as we have more information, we will adapt our website.
Notional interest on capitals - calculation CSD contribution adapted
To calculate the sickness and disability contribution (CSD), we took the total amount of the notional interest on the capitals you received into account.
Since January 2024, we only take 53,22 % of the amount of the notional interest into account.
Survivor's pension with dependent children - higher limits
If you have not yet reached the statutory retirement age and receive a survivor’s pension, the annual limit for the permitted professional activity was raised as of 1 January 2023, depending on the number of dependent children.
