Welfare adjustments (for employee and self-employed worker pensions only)

Your pension or benefit that is paid by the Pensions Service can change because of a welfare adjustment.

What is a welfare adjustment?

Since the generation pact of 2005, a welfare adjustment may be carried out on:

  • the statutory employee and self-employed worker pensions;
    and
  • other social benefits.

This concerns increases on top of the indexation.

Each year, the management and trade unions and the government apportion a welfare envelope.

This consultation happens during the Interprofessional AgreementOpens in a new window.

Which welfare adjustments are planned?

The federal coalition agreement 2025-2029 of 31 January 2025 provides for the existing welfare envelope to be replaced by a specific envelope for the most vulnerable.

Currently, no decision has yet been reached on how this specific envelope will function exactly.
