Pension amount 1st pension year
Calculation pension amount for your first pension year
The worked and assimilated periods of the year in which you retire (your start year) also count towards your pension.
Because the wage details for your start year and for your last career year are often still unknown at the time of the pension calculation, we use the wages of the penultimate year for the pension calculation.
You do not have at least one worked or assimilated day in your last career year? In that case, we do not take the worked and assimilated periods of your start year into account for your pension calculation.
Determining the reference wage for the start year (N)
You have at least 104 full-time equivalent days in your penultimate career year (N-2):
- the reference wage for your start year equals the total of the actual and fictitious wages and lump sums of the penultimate career year (N-2).
- this is also used as the reference wage for your last career year (N-1).
You have fewer than 104 full-time equivalent days in your penultimate career year (N-2):
- the reference wage for your start year equals the total of the actual and fictitious wages and lump sums of the last career year (N-1).
- if the wage details of the last career year are still unknown, we wait until they are effectively known before calculating the pension.
Calculation pension amount for start year
The pension share for your start year equals 1/12 of the total wages x the number of months that precede the start date of the pension.
Example
Vik retires on 01.09.2022. At the time of his pension calculation, the following details are available for Vik:
| Year | Wages | Worked days | Assimilated days |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2020 (N-2) | 45 500,00 EUR | 312 | 0 |
| 2021 (N-1) | still unknown | / | 312 |
| 2022 (N) | still unknown | / | / |
In 2021, the penultimate career year, there are 312 assimilated days. Therefore, we need to calculate a pension share for 2022, the start year of Vik's pension.
From 1 January until the end of August we count 8 months. For this period we will calculate a pension share.
Because Vik has more than 104 full-time equivalent days in 2020 (N-2), namely 312 full-time equivalent days, the reference wage for 2022 is the revalued wage of 2020.
- The total wages of 2022 = 45 500,00 EUR x (8/12) = 30 333,33 EUR
- The pension share for 2022 = (1/45) X 30 333,33 EUR x 1 x 60 % = 404,4444 EUR
For 2021 (N-1), the reference wage is also the revalued wage of 2020.
- The total wages of 2020 = 45 500,00 EUR x (312/312) = 45 500,00 EUR
- The pension share for 2021 = (1/45) X 45 500,00 EUR x 1 x 60 % = 606,6667 EUR
Overview:
| Year | Total wages | Revaluation | Pension proceeds |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2020 (N-2) | 45 500,00 EUR | 1 | 621,5251 EUR |
| 2021 (N-1) | 45 500,00 EUR | 1 | 606,6667 EUR |
| 2022 (N) | 30 333,33 EUR | 1 | 404,4444 EUR |
