We calculate your Belgian retirement pension on the basis of:

Your professional status

You worked as employee, civil servant or self-employed worker in Belgium? In this case, you are entitled to a retirement pension for this status, in proportion to:

  • the duration of your career in said capacity;
    and
  • your wages.

You worked in several statuses (mixed career)? In this case, you are entitled to several retirement pensions (mixed pension).

You also worked abroad? In most cases, you are also entitled to a pension abroad, but other rules may apply there.

Your wages, salary or professional income

The higher your wages, salary or professional income, the higher your pension. But there is an upper limit:

  • for a pension as employee, we limit the yearly wages to 82 608,94 EUR. If you earn more than this, you will not receive a higher pension.
  • for the self-employed, the professional income is also limited (the income from which social contributions were deducted).

Your career

You already have a career as employee or civil servant after having worked one day (or one trimester in the case of the self-employed). In the past, the number of career years that counted towards the pension was limited to 45. Henceforth, you may work as long as you like, on the condition that your employer approves. Please note: after 45 career years of 14 040 days, certain periods of unemployment count less towards your pension amount.

We withhold social and fiscal deductions from the gross amount of your pension. The deductions depend on your pension amount and family circumstances. If you can't manage with your pension, you can count on a social safety net from the age of 66: the Guaranteed Income for Elderly Persons or GIEP.
